With the passage of the Tax Recovery Act of 2010, Congress re–authorized the provision that allows donors 70 ½ or older to make tax–free charitable gifts from their IRA accounts in 2011, without incurring income tax on the withdrawal. Donors can make charitable gifts from IRAs until December 31, 2011 and have them count as a minimum required distribution for the year. For more information, please click here.

Hospital—Sponsored Symposium Explores the 'Mysterious Brain' Ever wonder how our brain makes us human? Or if men's and women's brains really are different? How will new knowledge and insights about the brain change our everyday lives?

These and other mysteries about the brain will be explored in "The Glorious, Mysterious Brain", presented by the Connecticut Forum and sponsored by Hartford Hospital on February 25th. Panelists for the symposium include Temple Grandin, renowned autism advocate and inspiration to millions; Steven Pinker, author of "The Blank Slate" and "How the Mind Works"; and Paul Bloom, cognitive scientist and author of "How Pleasure Works." more

Most Successful Black & Red Ever Benefits Cancer Patients By any measure, Hartford Hospital's 20th anniversary Black & Red at The Bushnell on January 29th was a smashing success – in fact a record–smasher.

But the most important measure may be the thousands of cancer patients who will benefit from expanded patient–focused care at the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center in the years to come. Record net proceeds of more than $600,000 will be used to expand the Center's work and enhance staff expertise, particularly in multidisciplinary care, to continue to touch – and save – lives. more
