Reflections on a Long Rivalry
My initial exposure to the St. Mark's-Groton rivalry took place during my first few days at school in Southborough. I was a new Third Former in September of 1972, and the St. Mark's community was still reveling in the dramatic upset victory over Groton the previous November. We were herded in to Room B to watch the film of Bill McCandless' game-winning kick, and the importance of the annual "Groton games" in football and baseball was emphatically stressed.

Over the next few years, like many St. Markers, I was repeatedly caught up in the excitement of these yearly encounters.
